The weather radar network provides a detailed snapshot of rainfall over Switzerland and neighboring countries and therefore forms an essential basis for flood and storm warnings. As a result of shading of the radar beam through mountains, the detection of weak precipitation in the Alpine valleys by the radar is limited. Therefore two additional radar stations will be installed as part of the project Rad4Alp in the Valais and Grisons.
